Founded in 1710 as a Sake producer on the “Heavenly Mirror Lake”, in 1765, it was renamed Sasanokawa, after having endured 55 years of challenges as a new sake producer, they rebranded after the resilient bamboo grass that withstood the strong winds native to this region.  Nearly 200 years later, in 1946, they established the Asaka brewery and became the first licensed whisky distillery and the only whisky distillery in the Tohoku region of Japan.  Today, they produce the world’s finest whisky and sakes exported from Japan.
